Unofficial ATLA fanart. A piece depicting the Water Tribe siblings from Avatar: The Last Airbender. When I first started working on this piece, my mind wasn't in the healthiest of places. I had a lot of insecurities and frustration over my own shortcomings and stagnancy and kept comparing myself to my siblings. I projected these insecurities onto Sokka's character as the normal non-bending brother of the last waterbender. I had hoped to convey that sense of powerlessness in Sokka. Although his position of elder brother may be higher than Katara's, his entire being is still dimmed in the face of Katara's greatness.
